     2 minutes to Eagle's Peak! said the roadsign.

     It was a quiet drive: both little Timmy and his dad were lost in their own thoughts. But little Timmy was six years old, and his curiosity couldn't remain silent for long.
     "Dad?... Dad? Dad! Why did we leave that bird to die? We could've brought it back with us and taken it to a vet."
     Dad tried to remember the bird with the bent wings and broken beak, but his mind was filled with other pictures from the past.

     1 minute to Eagle's Peak!

     "Da-aaaaad! You can't've forgotten it already! You saw it just before your phone rang..."
     If only he could forget the phonecall...
     Timmy seemed to have momentarily forgotten the bird. "Hey, you said it was the doctor who phoned! Are we gonna see Mum?" Timmy beamed at the thought of seeing his bed-ridden Mum, dying of cancer.
     Dad suddenly answered little Timmy's question: "Timmy, I didn't try to save the injured bird because, sometimes, things can get so painful that you want to die."
     Little Timmy looked long and hard at Dad, before saying, "Dad... have you broken your beak too?"

     Welcome to Eagle's Peak!
     Turn right for the car park.
     Peak just 50 metres ahead!

     Dad drove straight on.
Kids can be so perceptive.

d'Aww, that's sad :(
And real good at the same time, because it actually makes me feel kinda sad. Quite an achievement for such a short story, but on the other hand, it's the power of the medium.

I feel like I'm saying all weird things :lol: Please don't be too offended ^^;
